How do you decide a soap is sulfate-free?

We read the full ingredient list and flag sodium or ammonium lauryl sulfate, laureth sulfate, coco-sulfate, myreth sulfate and any other sulfate cleanser. Front-of-pack claims don't count.

Are sulfates bad for you?

Not for most people. Sulfates are effective cleansers and are considered safe in rinse-off products. Some people simply find them too drying.
